Originaire du village du Longy sur la commune de Millevaches, Emile Labarre nous a livré avec beaucoup de gentillesse et de précision ses nombreux souvenirs des usages et utilisations de l'eau et des milieux humides dans la société rurale traditionnelle de la Montagne Limousine : la tourbe (la trabalhar, la sechar, se chaufar...), l'irrigation des prés (drets d'aiga, bochadis, levas, levadas, abialons, plaidar a Sòrnac ..) , les moulins (l'estanh, mòure, la seglie, la palhada..), la fontaine du longy ... La collecte ethnolinguistique "L'eau en Montagne Limousine / De la font a la mar" fut menée sur 25 communes du plateau de Millevaches en 2007-2008 dans le cadre d'un projet Plan Loire Grandeur Nature.
